The Fitzwilliam Wentworth Estate is a diverse rural estate centred on Wentworth village between Rotherham and Barnsley in South Yorkshire. The Estate has an immense history and a wealth of heritage, attractive landscapes and abundant wildlife. Incorporating a considerable area of let land and property, it is maintained with continuity and conservation in mind. As well as a thriving rural community, the Estate is an important local economy.

HERITAGE & LANDSCAPE

Harbouring a significant mining history, the countryside around Wentworth is an attractive and productive rural landscape with traditional buildings situated amongst undulating farmland and deciduous woodlands. Influenced by many renowned architects, at the heart of the Estate is an 18th Century parkland landscape and array of fascinating buildings. Once home to the Rockingham and Fitzwilliam families, the magnificent Wentworth Woodhouse was sold in 1989. However, the associated deer park, its follies, monuments and serpentine lakes remain part of the Estate and are accessible to the public.

ECONOMY & COMMUNITY

As well as providing homes for numerous families, Estate premises accommodate a broad range of businesses. Wentworth village is a popular destination for visitors who enjoy its rural character, vernacular buildings and amenities. Alongside its resident population, the village hosts a number of food, retail and small-scale manufacturing traders. There is also a large garden centre, a popular primary school and fascinating church. Details of premises currently available to rent can be found by navigating to the Property page.
